Dj Mutiny - Most ft.Miss Trouble (Breakfastaz Remix)

Dj Mutiny
Most ft.Miss Trouble (Breakfastaz Remix)

Label: Sub Frequency Funk

After spending the best part of a year lost in a world of eminently forgettable hiphop tracks, soulful breaks supremo DJ Mutiny (described most accurately by his three-year-old son as a "sad, strange little man") finally returns to the breaks scene with another painfully futile attempt to combine dancefloor-friendly beats and bass with "nice strings and stuff", as he oh-so-poetically puts it. We just hope it doesn't drive us into bankruptcy this time. Fingers crossed people! Otherwise it's going to be another chocolate-free easter over at Soulful-But-Impoverished Towers (although if you do happen to find yourselves in the local Woolworths, please think of us...).
Now here's a little test: what West-London-based production outfit would be silly enough to take a soulful breaks classic like 'Most' and turn it into a roaring, subtle-as-a-doner-kebab trancetastic monster? Yes, you guessed it right, it's The Breakfastaz (no, there's no prize - you just read it at the top of the page, you shyster!). Chiswick's finest breakbeateers clearly thought we would appreciate their brutally ripping the fragilty and - dare we say it - the ethereality from one of our favourite songs and then throwing amen chops and trance riffs at it until it sounded like Tiesto after a couple of months living in an inner London housing estate. Well we don't. But everyone else seems to f***ing love it. And we will grudgingly admit that it does kinda-soooorta work. Plus, if number-of-times-played-by-Jay-Cunning-on-his-Kiss-show is a valid scoring system, then we're pretty much onto a winner. See whatcha think.
