Ben & Lex
Sound Gal (+Baobinga & ID Remix)

Label: Functional

Price: £5.40

Functional return after their summer sabbatical, well if can call helping to arrange the UK’s leading electronic music festival ‘The Glade’ a break… With this tasty little strumpet from Exeter’s leading up and coming breaks duo Ben & Lex and good lordy, looks like dem boys have struck breakbeat gold. The Devonshire duo have been wowing audiences in the South West for over six years, and their own vinyl releases have confirmed them as one of the up and coming names to watch in the studio and behind the decks. Their distinctive sound can be heard on their weekly N.S B. radio show. Ben & Lex have also had an exclusive mix on Radio 1 for Annie Nightingale and they are residents at the UK’s longest running monthly breakbeat night, Beatz & Bobz, where they regularly support break beat heavyweights such as Rennie Pilgrem, Freq Nasty and Tayo.

Already featuring of Freq Nasty’s killer Breakspoll mix album ‘Sound Gal’ (as the titles suggests) sees the duo set the desk to red, gold and green and prepare to paint the world dub-tastic with this head nodder and to be completely honest, body rocker of a rock out anthem.

Drafted in on the mix is them cheeky lads from ‘Oop north Boabinga & ID. Their debut Big Monster single at the start of 2006. 'Rite Of Passage / Get Retro' sold out soon after release and attracted big support from the likes of Atomic Hooligan and The Plump DJs. Their next single, 'The Machine / Jelly Roll' further develops the Big Monster sound and is set to become one of the anthems for summer 06, with particularly strong support from the Stantons. Meanwhile, the Big Monster sound continues to grow through a full schedule of remixes as can been seen here as they bring their filthy sound to the mix and deliver a jump up version to cater for those who like it, well up and rocking ensuring Functional begin their Autumn campaign with style, and boy are you guys their some treats!

As well as sister club night Beatz & Bobz rapidly approaching their 10th anniversary in 2007 (that’s 10 years of throwing the biggest and best parties in the South West!) Functional also prepare for releases from Rob Smith (of Smith & Mighty fame) including a remix from Tayo and Care In The Community and a fresh new joint from cheeky young whippets Tom Real & The Rogue Element. You really should watch out cos’ this label is about to come into its own...
